I have a soft spot for all things Scrabble. In fact, I’m the proud owner of some lovely Scrabble-tile jewelry and fridge magnets.
The majority of my friends poke fun at this Scrabble obsession and general word geekiness. However, once in a while I find a kindred spirit. Someone whose eyes light up at the promise of a true-to-the-original Scrabble app, whose main reason for accessing Facebook is to make the next move, who follows the Hasbro licensing and trademark controversies as closely as I do, who stands in awe of anyone who actually competes in a public Scrabble competition.
As a newcomer to Combo Creative, I’m finding my relationship with partners Su T and Kelley both inspiring and fortunate. Nothing like working with like-minded creative types who also value effective language, good design and smart strategy!
During a recent team meeting, complete with requisite doses of caffeine, I noticed a large steaming “K” mug out of the corner of my eye. I had to do a double take. And I had to rudely interrupt the conversation to ask, “Is that a Scrabble mug?” Kelley confirmed that indeed it was. I briefly noticed the large consonant with its associated letter value on one side and the complete list of letters and values on the other. Wow – what a nice mug!
I quickly aborted the digression and got back to serious business. But not before reaffirming that this was going to be a great place to work.
